Two Wrestlers

Wrestling was one of the Olympic sports. This marble group is from Ostia, a port of Rome, from the “schola of Trajan.” It is a Roman second century A.D. copy of a fourth/third century B.C. Greek original.

In wrestling, an athlete had to throw his opponent to the ground three times in order to win.
