Emperor Verus as Divine
ID: TCMCAMDE10

A bronze of statue of the Roman emperor Lucius Aurelius Verus (A.D. 161-169) found at Boubon. Second century A.D.
The bronze, life-size, nude statue of Verus emphasizes his divine status—or at least being the "son of a god." It is very rare to find Bronze Statues. Most of them were melted down in antiquity.
This, plus two other statues, were found in the ancient city of Bubon that is located in the Gölhisar District north of Antalya, Türkiye. It was discovered during clandestine excavations in the Sebasteion in the city and was smuggled abroad (U.S.A.). The Sebasteion is a name given to structures built for deified Roman Emperors. It was recently returned to Türkiye and is on display in the Archaeology Museum in Antalya.
