Middle/Late Bronze Gatea

View looking south, from outside of the city, at the Middle/Late Bronze Age Gateway that leads into the city of Megiddo (ca. 2000-1200 BC). The gate has two shallow chambers on each side—thus, a "four chambered gate."

The foundation layer is of strong black basalt with cut limestone blocks above that. Every few layers, a layer of timbers was inserted—probably for stability. There also may have been a mudbrick super structure.

The gateway is partially reconstructed—see here for another view with markings.
