LB Cistern Interior 2

View of the interior of the Late Bronze age cistern, which is located near the palace/temple on the upper tell of Hazor.

View looking east at the entrance to an MB III/LB I (ca. 1650–1400 B.C.) cistern. The man is standing on the stepped passage that slopes down to where the water was collected. The passageway is corbel vaulted, like the cistern — from approximately the same period — at Mycenae in Greece!

Compare the cistern at Mycenae to this one.

The entrance to the cistern is in area "A" and is located a bit south-southwest of the later Solomonic Gate.
