Frescoed Wall

View of a frescoed wall in one of the buildings discovered in Nahum Avigad's excavations in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem.

The plaster and paint was applied to stones that form the surface of a rubble filled wall—note the upper stones. The smooth plaster is frescoed (or seccoed) with a variety of colors but, following Second Temple Jewish tradition, no human figures are represented.
