Crusader Moat

View from north to south along the eastern moat of the city. To the right (west) a portion of the city wall is visible. The Crusader City of Caesarea is only 55 acres in size and housed a population of up to 10,000. The prominent moat was built by Louis IX of France in A.D. 1251-1252. But the city fell to the Mamluks in A.D. 1265.
