Hasmonean Quarter 1

View looking west at the well–preserved remnants of buildings from the Hasmonean Period. This Jewish settlement was built in the first quarter of the second century B.C. It was abandoned during the reign of King Alexander Jannaeus (r. 102–76 B.C.).
