Map or image for Philippi South

A main north–south road passes through the antiquity site of Philippi—dividing it into north and south sections.

The southern section contains the large Roman forum, including the “bema,” associated shops, temples, and administrative structures; churches; palestra; and a large Byzantine complex of an octagonal church, bishop’s palace, etc.
