Map or image for Mount Tabor

Mount Tabor is a distinct rounded hill that rises in the northeast corner of the Jezreel Valley—elevation 1,929 ft. It is situated where the borders of three Galilean tribes met—namely Naphtali, Issachar, and Zebulun. It was here where Barak assembled his forces to fight the Canaanites (Judges 4). According to historical and archaeological sources there were fortresses here during the second century B.C. through the first century A.D.

Beginning with Cyril of Jerusalem, A.D. 348, Christian tradition has associated the Transfiguration of Jesus, in the presence of Moses and Elijah, and Peter, James, and John (Matt 17:1–19; Mark 9:2–8; Luke 9:28–36).

There is a very helpful article online in arXitecture with much impotant data about the Basilica of the Transfiguration.
