To the south of the modern city of Nablus (OT Shechem) is located Mount Gerizim—a mountain that is holy to the Samaritans.

There, the Samaritans built a (series of?) temple(s) to worship God. Today the community is very small—less than 700 persons—but they still participate in ancient rituals (especially notable is their Passover celebration in the spring of the year).

For a relatively recent description of the archaeological finds see: Magen, Yitzhak. “Bells, Pendants, Snakes & Stones — A Samaritan Temple to the Lord on Mt. Gerizim.” Biblical Archaeological Review 36, no. 6 (November/December 2010): 26–35, 70.
