During the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, Ottoman rulers controlled much of the Ancient Near East. At that time a number of important artifacts and inscriptions were brought to Istanbul. A large number of these are now housed in the “Archaeological Museum.” For years some of these artifacts were not available for public viewing, but now (2005) the first and second floors of this museum have been reopened to the public.
